Hill of Tara Chakra Energies

Many who visit the Hill of Tara leave feeling refreshed in mind, body and emotionally.  A good walk out in the fresh air will, of course, always invigorate us.  Yet some believe that Tara's energies hold unusual properties for healing and renewal.  We make no claims for what you will experience but offer this opportunity to discover some of the Hill's more powerful places.

Nowadays, many esoteric groups and religions integrate the chakras into their belief in subtle energy flows within the body and auric field.  Describing the complex energetic system of the human body, the Hindu religion appears to have been the first to identify seven major points where the inner and outer realms interract, each likened to a disc or vortex . The word chakra has its origin in the Sanskrit word for wheel. These points are sited from the base of the spine, in the sacral regions, solar plexus, heart, throat and third eye to the crown of the head.

There are places on the Hill which have been identified by diviners, psychics and other energy workers as either holding the qualities of these seven chakras or enhancing those within us. These we will explore together.

This is a complex fascinating subject with many different opnions and theories and invariably leads to a personal and subjective experience for each individual.

7 Well Walk of Tara

According to ancient sources there are 6 named wells that flow from Tara. In reality there are more. As Tara was the embodyment of the Goddess then any water issuing from her side was regarded as breast milk of the goddess and attributed special powers. Indeed two of the wells names refer to brightness. This section of the walk is a long walk and involves a lot of clambering so is not for the faint hearted or those who do not wish to be crawling in the mud. Be warned!

St. John's red Well, Warrenstown

Find peace and serenity under the beautiful trees of St. John's Well.  Dedicated to St. John the Baptist it is recognised as a Mid-summer - 23/24 June - well.  There is a pattern here which requires that you go around the perimeter twelve times. You then wash your face in the flow and place your hands on the two stone faces. Difficult to know how old this is as there has been much restoration here and the faces are probably not in their original positions.  But washing was often a precursor to divination at a well and probably these are all parts of the original well rites.

The well is situated near Dunsany, in the area of Dunshaughlin.  It is not signposted off the road, so please contact us for further details. We will meet you at the site.  Allow €10 extra

Hill of Skryne Skryne

skyreen 2Skryne translates as shrine and in medieval times contained the relics of St. Columcille of Iona (also known as Columba, Colum, Columkill) which may be another link to  the Book of Kells.  This was the hill twinned with Tara and may have been a site of habitation and or exile. The remains on the hill include an ancient holy well, the remains of the medieval church, some fine carvings, Skryne castle(private) and Mrs. O's pub which is famously used in the Guinness advert around Christmas time.
